1.Why Serial Port Protector without optical coupler isolation is used?
As every communication wire of serial isolator has only one serial connection and protect the equipment at one terminal; when two terminals are connected with serial isolator, power supply is not available in the middle part and the circuit does not work. Even there is external power supply, the signal will be distorted or delayed during the optical coupler transmission. After the two distortions are superimposed or delayed,the baud rate can not reach 9600 BPS and the compatibility is lowered greatly. Moreover, the wirings with power supply will superimposed and interference the inductive voltage, serial isolator will be damaged easily.

GL-RS232-2 Serial Port Protector is without optical coupler isolation,but many measures have been adopted. Limit the electric level of RXD and TXD pins of the host machine or instrument within ±12V,the response time is short and the reaction is fast,therefore, the host machine or instrument can be protected efficiently,the electric level at the connection terminal of the communication cable is maintained. Power supply is provided to the serial isolator of the counterpart. All these create necessary conditions for dual protection.
GL-RS232-2 Serial Port Protector(without optical coupler isolation) works with GL-RS232-1 Serial Port Isolator Protector,the deficiency of serial isolator is covered. The equipment at the two terminals of the communication cable is provided well.

In the consideration of self protection, some instruments are embedded with serial isolator, but serial isolator can be not be equipped on the host machine, GL-RS232-2 Serial Port Protector is a good choice.

2.Advantages of Serial Port Protector(without optical coupler isolation)
As there is no optical coupler, the signal will not be distorted or delayed, or limiting the baud rate, the capability is enforced greatly. While the host machine is protected, power supply is provided to the serial isolator of the counterpart machine. All these create necessary conditions for dual protection.

 3.Disadvantages of Serial Port Protector (without optical coupler isolation)
As there is direct connection between the input terminal and the output terminal of the electronic components on the serial port Protector (without optical coupler isolation), if the electronic component fails,the protection is lost. Although the possibility is low, it may be possible.

4.Characteristics of GL-RS232-2 Serial Port Protector
1). Only reliable components are equipped,components with poor surge suppressor (IN4148) is not used,  which are replaced with semiconductor triode FR107 parts,the reliability is increased greatly. Considering the possibility of efficacy failure,the components are combined in the principle of Only damage to itself, no damage to others to ensure the protection.
2). The serial protector is with multi protections. Due to the limit of space and size, many serial isolators are not equipped with self-protection part,so it may be damaged by itself.
